To support the vigorous implementation of return-home social practice by university students and rural revitalization, from July 14 to July 23, the “Village Rhythm” practice team from the North China University of Technology, building on the phased research results of their earlier “return home” social practice, conducted in-depth fieldwork in southern Fujian. They carried out activities themed around “Boosting Rural Revitalization of Fujian's Tea Industry,” aiming to fulfill their mission, enrich farmers, and assist in revitalization. Following the basic guidelines of integrating governance with education, science and technology with education, and industry with education, they aimed to deliver a “traveling major ideological and political lesson.” In this process, they received education, developed their abilities, and made contributions in the societal classroom, giving back to their hometown through concrete actions.
Integration of Governance and Education, Gathering Great Ideological Power
The Village Rhythm practice team seized the opportunity of red education, learning ideas and strengthening spirits, closely combining ideological and political education with academic practice teaching. Upholding the practice philosophy of “leadership guidance, practicing our original aspirations,” they integrated youth ideological and political education throughout social practice.
Through visits to the Xiamen Tong'an Highland Party School's Museum of Original Aspirations and Missions, the Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall, and the Xiamen City Planning Exhibition Hall, they gained insights into the spirit of “daring to venture and pioneering” characteristic of the special economic zone and the synergistic effects of the integrated urban circle of Xiamen, Zhangzhou, and Quanzhou in rural revitalization. They drew upon the innovative strength to be brave at the forefront and resolute in moving forward.
Participating in mountain student study tours, joining hands with Taiwanese youth with a shared ambition to assist educational aid, they sent the “Village Rhythm” Brand tea products to the mountain students in Fugong County, Nujiang, Yunnan, helping to create a new situation of central-local coordination, cross-strait mutual assistance, urban-rural assistance, and school-enterprise collaboration.
Integration of Science and Education, Innovation Leading Development
The Village Rhythm practice team, oriented towards scientific innovation, combined cutting-edge technological innovations with the cultivation of innovative talents, adhering to the path of “innovation leads, technology empowers” for prosperity. They integrated frontier technological innovations into the overall policy for regional talent development.
They visited several national high-tech enterprises, including Xiamen Cloud Scene Technology Co., Ltd., Collaborative Innovation (Xiamen) Energy Industry Operation Co., Ltd., and Xiamen Berner Electronics Co., Ltd., to exchange and learn about key issues such as the creation of digital IPs for Fujian tea, park operation and management, and breakthroughs in technological innovation, providing references for advancing modern agricultural technologies and e-commerce live streaming into rural households.
They actively explored the establishment of a regular exchange mechanism involving multi-party collaboration among college students, conducting exchanges and co-construction with multiple universities, including Xiamen University, Jilin Jianzhu University, and Zhangzhou Science and Technology College. They discussed topics such as the transformation of college students' innovative practice results, the cultivation of tea professionals, and successful examples of assisting farmers through practical work, encouraging talents to go to the countryside and technology to invigorate agriculture, and grasping the technological direction of college students' social practice.
Integration of Industry and Education, Assisting the Great Cause of Revitalization
The Village Rhythm practice team, with industrial construction at its core, followed the principle of “lead by key players, empower with industry,” exploring and understanding innovative ideas to help develop agriculture, rural areas, and farmers.
The practice team learned about local conditions and people's livelihoods in villages like Junying Village and Lianhua Village in Xiamen, and Xinling Village and Dongkeng Village in Longjuan Township, Anxi County. They discussed solutions to developmental challenges together. Using their professional knowledge, they actively engaged in e-commerce live-streaming to assist farmers, creating digital IPs rich in local cultural characteristics for Fujian teas. They promoted agricultural products through online platforms, opening up new sales channels for local tea farmers; established rural shareholding economic cooperatives, using the production organizational relationship of “enterprise + cooperative + farmer” and the model of “protected price purchase + profit distribution” to ensure stable income for tea farmers; introduced advanced tea production machinery and equipment to strengthen agricultural productivity, contributing to agricultural modernization; surveyed tea mountain topography, constructed modern tea gardens, and promoted smart agriculture, using scientific and technological innovation to drive the transformation and upgrading of agriculture, assisting in achieving the overarching goal of revitalizing and enriching agriculture.
At the same time, they visited well-known tea companies, experienced tea culture, and used leading enterprises as models to create the unique “Village Rhythm” brand culture.
In the next step, the “Village Rhythm” practice team will continue to uphold the original aspiration of “youth in action, assisting revitalization,” using assistance to farmers as a pathway, actively engaging in rural construction, cultivating a deep love for agriculture, and honing skills to revitalize agriculture.
