Benefiting from its unique climate, Jingning Huiming Tea was selected as one of the first batch of “Climate-Friendly Products” for 2024.

The “Climate-Friendly Products” certification is a joint effort by the China Meteorological Service Association and professional certification bodies to evaluate the climate quality of agricultural products. This work involves assessing factors such as climate, soil, and water quality in the agricultural environment to confirm the unique qualities of the product. The certification results are announced on the official websites of the State Administration for Market Regulation and the association.
After the conference, a reporter from Beijing News Shell Finance conducted an exclusive interview with Yan Yihua, President of the Jingning She Autonomous County Tea Culture Research Association, regarding the process of creating Jingning Huiming Tea as a “Climate-Friendly Product” and future plans. Yan Yihua stated that the unique soil and climate conditions in the mountainous areas of Jingning have formed the distinctive characteristics of Jingning Huiming Tea: “fresh in the first Cup, rich in the second, sweet and full-bodied in the third, with lingering flavor in the fourth and fifth cups.” More importantly, we provide insurance for the low-temperature meteorological index of tea, ensuring a stable income for tea farmers.
Jingning She Autonomous County in Zhejiang Province belongs to the subtropical climate zone, with distinct seasons, abundant heat, warmth and Humidity, ample rainfall, long frost-free periods, and high-quality ecological environment, ranking among the top five in the country for many years. Both air and water quality meet national Class I standards. It has a climate characterized by “warm winters and cool summers,” earning it the nickname “Shangri-La of East China,” making it highly suitable for tea cultivation.
In addition to the climatic advantages brought by geographical location, Yan Yihua mentioned that, in recent years, the government has implemented microclimate meteorological monitoring, providing timely and precise weather information for agricultural production, and scientifically guiding agricultural activities. Additionally, we have constructed high-quality irrigation systems, including spray, drip, and drainage systems, to ensure appropriate microclimates for Crops.
Furthermore, Yan Yihua pointed out that we have implemented low-temperature meteorological index insurance for tea farmers. Specifically, we purchase climate insurance for farmers, with appropriate subsidies provided by the government. For the local people, growing Huiming tea means no worries about the future. In case of climatic disasters, they can still maintain a stable income, which helps to motivate them.
“Of course, in recent years, we have undertaken many other initiatives for rural revitalization, adopting comprehensive measures to increase farmers' incomes. Jingning Huiming Tea has solved employment problems and driven economic development. Currently, more than 40,000 people in Jingning rely primarily on Huiming tea cultivation for their livelihood, with a total planting area of 76,000 mu (approximately 5,067 hectares), an area under harvest of 63,000 mu (approximately 4,200 hectares), and a total output value of approximately 674 million yuan.”
Yan Yihua indicated that in the future, we will further implement the “Quality Improvement, Brand Upgrade, and Integration of Tea Tourism” three-pronged approach. We will delve into the rich history and culture of Huiming Tea, tell vivid stories about Huiming Zen Tea and Huiming World Famous Tea, and comprehensively promote Huiming Tea culture, industry, and technology. We aim to further enhance the brand of “World-Famous Tea, Gold Medal Huiming, Thousand-Year Zen Tea,” so that more people can understand and appreciate Huiming Tea. The “Climate-Friendly Product” Huiming Tea will play a greater role in the high-quality development and shared prosperity of She Autonomous County Jingning.
