Douyun Maojian Blows the Assembly Whistle for Tea Exports!

Amidst sea of clouds on the tea mountains, the Maojian sprouts verdantly. In Douyun, located along the 30th parallel north – a “Golden Belt” for production favored by nature – the region continues to write its millennia-old story of tea fragrance and charm, with clouds as its attire and Maojian as its soul.

On August 4th, the 2024 Seventh China Tea Import and Export Trade Annual Conference and Douyun Maojian Tea People's Meeting officially opened in Douyun City, Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. Hosted by the Tea Industry Branch of the China Agricultural International Cooperation Promotion Association and the Guizhou Provincial Tea Association, and organized by Guizhou Douyun Maojian Tea Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., the conference theme was “Shared Success, Creating New Opportunities for Global Tea Trade; Douyun Maojian Scenting the World, Gathering Tea and People for the Benefit of All.” The aim was to enhance the international competitiveness of Douyun Maojian, promote high-quality, leapfrog development of the Douyun Maojian, Guizhou tea industry, and even the industry.

Over 300 guests, including representatives from the media and various sectors, gathered at the opening ceremony. Among them were , an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee and Vice Governor of Guizhou Province; Tang Dezhi, Vice Chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Secretary of the Qiannan Prefectural Party Committee; Zhai Huqu, Honorary President of the China Agricultural International Cooperation Promotion Association and former President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Mu Degui, former Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial People's Congress and President of the Guizhou Provincial Tea Association; Lu Zhiming, former Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Guizhou Provincial People's Congress and Honorary President of the Guizhou Provincial Tea Association; Alexis Kaye, Vice President of the European Speciality Tea Association and Founding Chairman of the Danish Tea Association; and Marco Bettone, Executive Chairman of the International Slow Tea Alliance and President of the Italian Tea and Herbal Tea Association.

Healthy tea, clean tea, ecological tea – these are the standards consistently upheld in Qiannan Prefecture, transforming green leaves into golden leaves that enrich tea farmers.

In recent years, the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Government have conscientiously implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping, regarding the tea industry as an important characteristic advantageous industry, a people-enriching industry, and an industry for rural revitalization. In his speech, Luo Qiang, Vice Governor of Guizhou Province, stated that in the policies for the development of the tea industry, the province has adopted a mechanism led by provincial leaders, promoted through special task forces, and supported by the concerted efforts of provinces, regions, and counties. By the end of 2023, the province's tea garden area had stabilized at 7 million mu, with an annual output of 450,000 tons and a comprehensive output value exceeding 90 billion yuan. The brand value of “Douyun Maojian” has continued to rise. In 2023, the province ranked 9th and 7th in the country for tea export volume and value respectively, with the average export price ranking first in the country.

In recent years, Guizhou's black and green teas have made significant progress in exports, with trade partners mainly distributed in Africa and Central Asia. In the future, more efforts should be made to expand markets in Europe and North America, opening up higher-quality international markets.

In 2023, the prefecture's tea garden area reached 1.618 million mu, with a production volume of 63,500 tons and a total output value of 11.73 billion yuan. The tea industry has become an important industry for “promoting local development and enriching the people” in Qiannan Prefecture. “Shared success, creating new opportunities for global tea trade” is one of the themes of this conference. Qiannan Prefecture grows and produces good tea, hoping that through this meeting, everyone can join hands for mutual benefit, promote the Douyun Maojian brand, and write a new chapter in the high-quality development of the Qiannan Prefecture tea industry!
