According to historical records, Nanchuan has had over 1,700 years of tea production history. As early as the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, Mao Wenshi's “Tea Spectrum” mentions, “Fuzhou produces three types of tea, with Binhua being the best (present-day Nanchuan)…” Furthermore, according to “Records of Jianyan” in 1162, “Fuzhou produces three types of tea, with Binhua (formerly known as Nanchuan) being the best, followed by Bai Ma. Made in early spring, the tea carried by predecessors to the capital as gifts was particularly well-known for its Binhua early spring quality.”
At the end of the 1960s, the introduction of large-leaf varieties from Yunnan began. In the 1970s, the mass production of black broken tea was a success, selling well both domestically and internationally. The “Emei” brand of black broken tea won a gold medal at the 25th Geneva International Food Fair, with a quality comparable to that of Assam varieties from India, characterized by its “richness, strength, freshness, and refreshment.” It was designated as an exempted product for export by the Shanghai port, gaining fame around the world.
