You may be aware that drinking floral Tea has certain benefits for health preservation, beauty, and complexion, but you may not know that the consumption of floral tea should align with your constitution.
There are five major taboos to drinking floral teas:
1. Avoid Random Combinations
Floral teas are often combined to achieve better health benefits, but if you do not consider their effects and properties, and instead mix them according to personal preference, it can have adverse effects on your body. Generally, it is best not to combine more than three types of floral teas, and ensure that their properties do not conflict.
2. Avoid Drinking Floral Teas Without Consideration
When drinking floral teas, do not do so casually. There are many varieties of floral teas, each with different effects and functions. Before drinking, understand the effects of the specific floral tea and choose one that suits your needs.
3. Avoid Excessive Consumption of Floral Teas
The petals, leaves, and other parts of the plants used in floral teas have their own flavors and medicinal effects. Drinking them in accordance with your constitution can help maintain health. However, this does not mean they can be consumed excessively over a long period. After a period of consumption, adjust based on your physical condition, as excessive drinking can have counterproductive effects.
4. Avoid Drinking Floral Teas on an Empty Stomach
In the morning, do not drink floral teas on an empty stomach. Doing so can dilute gastric juices, reduce the function of stomach acid, impair digestion, and affect protein absorption, potentially causing inflammation of the stomach lining. Drink after breakfast.
5. Avoid Drinking Floral Teas Before Bed
Do not drink floral teas before sleeping. We recommend stopping consumption at least two hours before bedtime. Even if the tea is intended to alleviate insomnia, avoid drinking within one hour of sleep. This is because drinking tea before bed introduces a large amount of water into the body, leading to frequent nighttime trips to the bathroom and disrupting sleep.
Note: Choose Floral Teas Based on Your Constitution
Most floral teas available on the market contain medicinal ingredients, and their properties vary. Chilling floral teas include honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, and bitter winter flower, while warming and nourishing ones include black tea, osmanthus, and jasmine. Drinking without considering your constitution can lead to discomfort. Excessive consumption of chilling floral teas can harm the spleen and stomach, while too much of the warming variety can cause heatiness. Therefore, individuals with a hot constitution can consume slightly chilling floral teas in moderation, while those with a cold constitution are suited for warmer floral teas. Additionally, when combining teas, keep it simple. If you are unsure about your constitution, consult a Traditional Chinese medicine practitioner for guidance.
Floral Tea brewing Methods
1. Typically, floral teas are brewed in covered glass cups, porcelain cups, or porcelain pots and left to steep for 2-5 minutes. This allows the effective components and unique fragrance of the flowers to release before drinking. However, brewing in a purple clay pot is not recommended.
2. Herbal teas belong to the category of non-fermented teas and are primarily made from young, unpolluted flower buds and petals. The water temperature for brewing should not be too high; a temperature range of 80°C to 90°C is ideal.
3. Insulated cups are not suitable for brewing floral teas, as the prolonged exposure to high and constant temperatures can rapidly degrade the vitamins and aromatic compounds in the teas, resulting in a darker color and a more Astringent taste. During the brewing process, the teapot and cup should be covered to minimize the loss of aroma.
